Today was a very sad day. My mom and Phillip's dog Hobbs went to "Doggie Heaven" today. Hobbies was such a great dog. He has had a wonderful long life and gave us all many memories and stories. I think the funniest story I will always remember about Hobbs is when Tyra was born and I spent my first 6 weeks with mom and Phillip. Every time Tyra cried, Hobbs went running to wherever she was at and just stood next to her until somebody went and picked her up. He was a very "neurotic" dog and would get very nervous when a bunch of people came in the house, especially men that he did not know. He definitely had a few men that he did NOT like, but for the most part, he liked everybody. As he got older, the grandkids all finally realized to NOT get near his tail....also one of the "neurotic" traits about him. Even though Phillip yanked on his tail all the time to try to break him of the habit, he still hated when anybody got near his tail. He lost his good buddy that he grew up with from a puppy quite a few years ago and his current buddy Chief will sadly miss him, and I believe already is wondering where he is at. We will all miss Hobbies very much. Rest in peace little Hobby....we will miss you!

Today, I was thinking... 2 more days until school starts and I will get the girlies out of my nerve center for the entire day and just have the little monster at home with me. As this day is now "almost" over, I have decided that the kids getting on my every last nerve was extremely tolerable compared to the animals that sent me out of my house today before I was ready to hang them all by their collars from the tree!!!!!!

Let me just say that we have been puppy sitting for my mom and Phillip with their boxer, Chief. Chief has been here several times and generally is pretty good. Needless to say, he has been anything but good since we got him Wednesday evening!!

Let me just give you a brief list of the animal torture that I have endured over the past 24 hours...

Over the past few days, numerous times I have repaired my kitchen door window screen and the window screen next to it from Chief putting his feet and head through them. Each time he has did this, I have not been able to get a hold of my camera for this, but if I do, as I am sure he will do it again, I will insert a pix.

Next is on Saturday when Jim's family was visiting we were all sitting outside and we brought Chief over near all of us and tied him out there with us. Jim's aunt June happen to look over and notice that Chief was chewing on the power cord that is the pump for the pool......that would have NOT been a good thing if that went unnoticed!! Thanks June!!

Though I like sweet revenge when one has had enough to tolerate someone else's crap, it is always nice to see the table turned. I hear this loud barking and noise carrying on outside on the deck. I proceed to the door to find out what the barking and howling is all about only to notice that Chief is running around the deck trying to get away from this Tom cat that showed up. This cat is vicious. It obviously is used to tangling with the mice as it was definitely getting the best of Chief. After I could only snicker, I went out and broke it up and got Chief back inside, put peroxide on his scratches on nose, and sent him on his back to the kitchen. Later, I see my old kitty Chloe perched on top of the gate to the kitchen only to realize that Chief is guarding the gate and barking not letting Chloe in to get a drink. He must have been afraid that he was going to get kicked by a cat again and chose this time not to let the "nice" cat in. He has not realized the difference yet I guess between barn cats and house cats!

My bamboo plant that I received years ago as a wedding shower present that I attended finally came to an end!! I woke up the other morning to find my bamboo plant spilled onto the floor and chewed into complete shreds. Chief was lying there acting like he was oblivious to the entire event (he must have forgotten that Pluto did not sleep in the kitchen with him), but the algae on his face was a dead give-away that he was going to town on my bamboo plant. Needless to say....that got a call to the vet and an hour later told that it was not poisonous, however, it would give him massive diarrhea, vomiting, anorexia, and insomnia!!!!!!!! First thought .......Great, now the dog will not sleep or eat and then end up puking and having diarrhea all over my kitchen!!! This only leads to bad results for later!!

After the call from the vet, I decided I would put Mr. Chief outside for a while realizing that he probably should just stay outside and let some of the bamboo out of his system! An hour later, I decide to let him in. All the sudden about 15 minutes later, I hear Chief barking and carrying on. I go into the kitchen only to discover that he brought in 2 cicadas from outside and they were flying around the kitchen and he was trying to catch them again. He finally managed to get all of them, eat them, and then throw them back up!! Not sure if they just tasted that bad, although the wings would have been enough to make me gag, or if it was that darn bamboo plant that he decided to munch down earlier!

***Dead cicada that Chief brought in***

After this, I decided, well, I will put him on the deck...it is fenced in and he can see inside still etc. I proceed to put him out there only for about 10 minutes later to hear that he was barking. I go in and he has his 2 front feet on the screen door and I was afraid there was not going to be ANY door if I let this continue after what he did to the screens in the kitchen. I grabbed the kids plastic table and moved it onto the deck and placed it in front of the screen door so he would NOT be able to get on it again and break/rip the screen door. I go back and start to work again and then it couldn't have been 15 minutes later, Jimissy comes in and informs me to come outside and look at Chief. I by this time, completely irritated, make my way outside only to discover that Chief was on top of the kids plastic table starring with his sad puppy eyes into the living room. I removed him from the table, yelled at him, gave him a treat and bone, and placed him on his pillow that was "already" out there.

***** Notice his pillow in the background and the "started" tears in the screen*****

An hour or so after #5, I hear this barking, "squealing" sound, thumping of feet, jumping, etc. By this time, I can't even explain my frustration for this dog at this point. I go back to the screen door only to find Chief on the deck jumping around and squirming. If you can only picture this because again....camera was in the kitchen and by the time I got back with it...it was too late! Chief managed...somehow... to get the girl's arm swimmie over his head and it was stuck around his neck. I am not talking the swim rings, but the ones that go on the arms only. Let me also add that he deflated all of the girls inflatables that were out there as well. I reckon he thought they were fair game since they were on the deck!! I am so mad that I did not get a picture of this!!!

I need to make an addendum and state that the actual first event was the first day after mom and Phillip left that the girls and I had dentist appointments. I left Chief outside for 2-1/2 hours we were gone. I am driving back up the driveway and notice from there that Chief has "spots of fur standing up" all over him....probably I would guess 200 or so... couldn't even put a finger on his body without hitting a spot. I am thinking hives, but NO clue what this could have been. After a few phone calls to Kaye and Aunt Karen, I decided that I should call the vet. Ended up being this poor dog is allergic to either flies, fleas, or mosquitoes. They were hives. I then had to give him Benadryl 50 mg for 2 days every 6 to 8 hours!!! And this dog lives in the woods???!!!

Let me just add that throughout all of my list so far, let us keep in mind that Chief is still a puppy. I can't even tell you how many rolls of paper towels I have been through and floor cleaner. Do they make Detrol (bladder control medicine) for dogs????????????????

Chief next decided that it would be fun to drag little Pluto all over the yard since Pluto was hooked up to a tie-out and Chief was just able to run. He was pulling him off the porch, around the yard, dragging him, etc. Poor little Pluto pee'd all over his front legs, face, leash, and even Chief as he was dragging him around every time he tried to relieve himself. Chief apparently thought it was so much fun dragging him around by the leash that once back in the kitchen, Chief thought it would be just as fun to get Pluto's toys and drag him again all around the kitchen with them.

If the above is just not enough, this is only a glimmer of my days with little Chief since Wednesday night!!!!!! More things have transpired since then, but it is all becoming a complete blur. Thank goodness, we get to take Chief home tomorrow!!!!!! I can honestly say, his cute little face has been enough. I need a break!!!!!!!! Mom and Phillip, you will be banned from any further vacations after this next one!! LOL My nerves just might not be able to take any more. Chief is lucky he was your dog and NOT mine as he might have had a new home by now!!! LOL

Amongst all of this today, Bradyn was driving me nuts as I got pulled away from my work so many times that I finally asked Jimissy to take Bradyn in the other room and KEEP him in there so I could get some work done. I go in there on the way to the bathroom and see Jimissy laying on top of my laundry basket. I tell her it is not a toy and to put it away. I then ask, "Where is Bradyn at?" All the sudden, I heard a big "DADA-DADA" and a huge giggle....Jimissy put the laundry basket over him and had him under it so he couldn't go into my office!! Apparently must not have bothered him that bad and sad enough........HE LOVED IT!!

Okay, I am wiped out for the day and getting my nerves a little warm just typing this about little Chief, which speaking of I will let out to use the bathroom before I go to bed with the hopes that I can drag myself out of bed around 5:30 to beat him up before he has fun in the kitchen again!! Despite all the anger, his fat little face is so darn cute, I can't be mad at him for that long!!

GOOD-NIGHT!!!

This past weekend, Jim and I had the McIntyre family at our house. We had a great time visiting with everybody. Uncle and Aunt Jim and Betty from Indiana, Uncle and Aunt Dan and June from Missouri, Jim's parents Wilson and Norma from IL, Jim's sister's little girl Rachael, and on Saturday Jim's sister-in-law and niece Tracy and Madalyn joined us and spent the night. We all had a great time and lots of food, swimming, and fun. Saturday, we went to Rockhome Gardens and then to the old Burger King in Mattoon for somewhat of a late lunch and ice cream. Sunday morning, we all met at Steak n' Shake in Mattoon for breakfast and then said our good-byes until probably October when we will all meet in southern Illinois at St. Francisville for the Chestnut Festival and parade. Thank you everybody for the great time!!

What more fun than the above is there to do on a Saturday afternoon in central Illinois?

Thanks to me stealing pixs from cousin Krista's blog site, which there are more of if you click on it, we now have another little addition to the Miller family...introducing Madeline Hope. Madeline was born on Thursday, Aug. 7th. The girls are very excited to hopefully get to meet her soon. We have had a lot of Miller additions lately with most recently being Briggs Anthony, my brother's little boy, and Grace Aladi, Megan's sister and my other cousin. My expecting pregnancies on my page now is slowly diminishing!! We are very happy for you Megan, Justin, Samuel, and William. I bet you are excited to get some pink and lace around the house, which is quite opposite to what we were excited for and my brother's family as well. Congrats again!
